Local Info
Tulsa is the 47th largest city in the United States and the most populated county in the state. People from Tulsa are called “Tulsans,” but most of us don’t mind being called “Okies.”
Tulsa is located along the banks of the Arkansas River situated between the Great Plains and the Ozark Mountains. Tulsa serves as the doorway to Green Country, a name popularized in northeastern Oklahoma for its lush greenery, hills and lakes. Holmes Peak, Turkey Mountain and Shadow Mountain surround Tulsa with breathtaking views, trails, and gardens.
Tulsa is among several cities who proudly claim to be the birthplace of Route 66. Driving on Route 66 through Tulsa, visitors can find local information about the history of Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, the state's Native American heritage, and the oil boom that put Tulsa on the map.
Tulsa's neighborhoods and surrounding communities, such as Greenwood, Broken Arrow, Bixby and Owasso have their own unique history and invite visitors to learn more about their local attractions. Local information is available by clicking on a link below.

City of Tulsa
www.cityoftulsa.org
As with most towns in Oklahoma, Tulsa's earliest settlers were Native Americans who relocated here after the U.S. Government allocated this part of the country as Indian Territory. As Americans moved West, Tulsa's early growth came from ranching and farming, then the oil boom of the 1920s brought even more expansion. Today, Tulsa is a vibrant community of blended cultures that values and respects its citizens.
